The Focus Factor

Updated: Jan 2, 2021

Steam from a hot shower simply fogs up the bathroom, but enough of it focussed, can power a locomotive. Light from a bulb can illuminate a room, but focussed light is a laser beam that can cut through steel. Focus is critical, but simplified, it is paying close attention. Being a successful man isn’t about gifts and intelligence but it IS about your focus. That’s what successful men do … they pick something important to achieve, direct all of their attention and energy to it, and then drive it to completion, and they see spectacular results.

One general who served with Winston Churchill described him as having a “fury of concentration.” He said, “When he focussed on a particular challenge, he was relentless. Nobody could turn him aside.”

Steve Jobs of Apple would take his “Top 100” people on a retreat every year. They would brainstorm and write hundreds of potential ideas on a large whiteboard. Then, Jobs would ask: “What are the ten things we should be doing next?” After much discussion, the group would come up with a list of ten. Then Jobs would slash the bottom seven and announce, “We can only do three.”

Proverbs 4:25 says …”let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.” That’s focus!

So I challenge you this week to pick 3 things that pertain to your purpose and the assignment God has given you and focus all of your energy and attention on them, avoid all other distractions … and watch what happens. Stay encouraged, stay strong, and be inspired!
